This expedition tackled Ben Avon by its remote northwest ridge, visiting the spectacular tor formations of Clach Bun Rudhtair before emerging on the summit plateau. The starting point was the car-park beside Corgarff Castle, from where I cycled west to about a kilometre short of the Linn of Avon with its rushing waters. The River Avon was followed to Caol Ghleann from where the ascent was made up the ridge to the west, passing the amazing rock outcrops of Clach Bun Rudhtair on the way.
