When I first climbed Beinn Eighe in 1986, the ascent was made in thick cloud. Although the main summit of Ruadh Stac Mor was successful, I failed to gain the top of Spidean Coire nan Clach. For sure, I had followed the ridge south and, on arriving at a trig point with no visible sign of a peak ahead, assumed this to be Spidean. But the peak was concealed in the cloud, just 200 metres farther on and 20 metres higher. This was the day I finally added this peak to my tally.
