Glassel Stone Circle

Glassel Dam Wood, 4 miles NW of Banchory

This unusual stone circle consists of just five upright stones, the tallest but a metre in height. Access is by a forest path immedietely opposite the entrance gates of Glassel House. There are allegedly side paths leading off to the circle, but these are soon obscured by masses of flllen branches and forestry debris. I found the best plan to be to keep to the main path till the stream was encountered, then to follow the stream southeastward. The terrain soon starts rising fairly steeply above the stream; if you keep to the highest ground and follow the crest of this rise, it will soon takes you to the stone circle, situated in a small clearing.
