Auchlee Stone Circles

Near Portlethen, Aberdeenshire

Although listed as Scheduled Monuments by Historic Scotland, don't expect too much from these two stone circles, both of which are in a serious state of disrepair. The Auchlee Recumbent Stone Circle (red marker) is deeply embedded in gorse bushes, though some recent clearing has taken place and a path leads in to the stones from the south. There are four obvious large stones.

The Auchlee Ring Cairn (blue marker) is in very poor condition though its circular bank is best visible when seen from the west. One prominent large orthostat stands on its western flank and a sprinkling of small stones prick out the outline of the cairn. Several large stones lying just west of the bank are field clearance.
